|Air 1 Nabs Impaired Speeder|

|Police say a 33-year old man is facing impaired driving charges after his vehicle was spotted travelling at a high rate of speed in Sunderland last week. The discovery was made with the assistance of Air 1, which relayed the position and speed of the suspect vehicle to officers who were able to safely stop the driver and take him into custody. Police say at that one point the vehicle was travelling on Highway 12 in excess of 150 km/h. Michael Bursey of Newfoundland was charged with impaired operation and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and released on a promise to appear. |
|Alleged Scissor Stabbing In Whitby|

|A man has been charged after allegedly stabbing his roommate in the hand with a pair of scissors. Police responded to the call from a multi-unit home on Brock St. just before midnight on Saturday. A 42-year old victim was found with injuries to his hand. The suspect, a 30-year old man from Whitby, has been charged with assault and breach of recognizance.|

|A sea of blue swept Ontario last night, and the Progressive Conservatives and their newly-elected leader, Doug Ford, cruised to a majority win in the Provincial Election. In Durham Region, the PC's won every riding except Oshawa, which went to the NDP's Jennifer French. Pickering-Uxbridge's Peter Bethlenfalvy won 42% of votes casts, giving him a decisive win over NDP candidate Nerissa Carino who finished with 32%.|
|Shooting Victim Identified|

|A 24-year old man who was shot in Oshawa yesterday morning has been identified by Durham Regional Police. Kyle David Baker was struck by gunfire and killed shortly after 2am in the area of Bloor St. W. and Ritson Rd. Officers performed CPR after arriving but Baker succumbed to his injuries. The area was cordoned off as homicide investigators searched for clues; they are asking anyone who had contact with Baker in the days or hours leading up to his death to come forward. A post-mortem has been scheduled; Baker is Durham's eighth homicide victim so far in 2018. |
|Deceased Woman Identified|

|The body of a deceased woman from Whitby who was found near the shore of Lake Ontario has been identified as 46-year old Melanie Vachon. She was reported missing on May 18th, then found more than two weeks later when a passerby was walking on the Waterfront trail near Water St. A post mortem has been completed, and additional tests are required to determine the cause of death. Police are asking anyone who may have had contact with Vachon, or seen her prior to her discovery to come forward. A photo of Vachon is posted at www.drps.ca under Newsroom.|
|Carjacking Suspect Located|

|A suspect has been arrested in connection with two carjackings that took place last week in Ajax and Pickering. 27-year old Nathan Barrett was located in North Bay while stealing gas after a warrant was issued for his arrest. The OPP's Repeat Offender Police Enforcement Unit says Barrett was also in breach of his parole. It is expected that he will be transferred to Durham Region where he will face charges. Barrett is serving a seven-year sentence for previous convictions that include robbery, escaping lawful custody, dangerous driving, and using an imitation firearm.|

105.5 Hits FM is pleased to announce the headliner and supporting act for its one day festival on July 14, 2018. Uxbridge native Leah Daniels will perform for the first time at the festival as the support act for Toronto’s Tyler Shaw.

Hitsfest features a jam packed day of up 13 musical performances on centre stage in Elgin Park. Local and regional vendors will also be selling their wears and promoting their art.
Final line up announcements will be made in early June.
Local brewery the Second Wedge will provide two beer options and a local winery will be providing the wine. Black Fly beverages will provide coolers again this year.

|Police have confirmed a teenager from Pickering was shot and killed in Toronto late Wednesday night. 18-year old Israel Edwards is dead following gunfire at Yonge and Dundas Square. Shots were fired just before 11pm; he was rushed to a trauna centre where he died from his injuries. At least three suspects were seen fleeing the scene; none of them were apprehended. Investigators are asking businesses in the area to review their closed-circuit security footage and contact police if they find evidence.|
|Stolen Vehicle Suspect Jumps From Window|

|In Oshawa, a suspect who was operating a stolen vehicle was arrested after jumping out of a second-story window to avoid police. The arrest was made Tuesday morning at around 11:30 while police were patrolling the area of Elm St. and Celina St. Officers say 30-year old Jake Pedersen of Oshawa resisted arrest by punching, kicking, and attempting to bite one of the police officers. The pursuit resumed after he fled into a nearby residential building; he jumped out of the window after officers followed him inside. Pedersen was not injured, and was taken into custody.|
|Motorist Strikes Pedestrian On Highway 401|

|A pedestrian was struck on westbound Highway 401 in Ajax yesterday. It happened at about 12:15pm between Westney Rd. and Brock Rd. Police say the man got out of a stalled vehicle and was struck by another motorist after his car had broken down on the highway. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a trauma centre.|
