In some cases, the individuals claim to be from the Region's water department, either on the phone or in person. The Region says they do not sell or endorse any water filters or treatment equipment. All Durham Region employees and authorized contractors carry ID, and officials add that if someone comes to your door, you should not feel pressure to sign a contract on the spot or let anyone into your home.

Marine units will also be busy on the waterways to ensure that boaters comply with vessel regulations.
